Mushrooms to Lead Mike Tyson to Victory in the Fight vs. Jake Paul?

The Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul boxing match, set to stream on Netflix on November 15, 2024, is a highly anticipated, high-stakes event. With controversial influencer Jake Paul facing retired boxing champ Mike Tyson, people seem surprisingly unsure where to place their bets. Tyson, 58, who is 31 years Paul’s senior, has fans questioning whether his stamina has held up over the years to give him a fair shot against the 27-year-old, currently undefeated Paul. However, Tyson may have a more… unorthodox advantage.

“I train on mushrooms because I feel beautiful. It takes me to heaven, baby,” Tyson expressed in his recent appearance on Logan Paul’s podcast, later claiming, “If I’m not on mushrooms, I’ll be on the residue of mushrooms” in regards to his expected state during the upcoming match. With this mind-bending approach to training, Tyson might just be ready to prove that when it comes to fighting, the only thing stronger than his punch is his mindset. All worth noting, he wouldn’t be the first pro-athlete to use the mental benefits of magic mushrooms as a leg-up in sports, either.

Professional golfers, for example, have already embraced psychedelics like psilocybin and ayahuasca to enhance focus and mental health. D.J. Trahan, a two-time PGA Tour winner, credits ayahuasca with transforming his mental health, while other pro golfers are exploring microdosing psilocybin to manage stress and improve performance without resorting to pharmaceuticals. ‘Psilocybin allows me to get a deep breath on the course that I haven’t been able to get in years,’ said another PGA tour winner.

“I have been micro dosing psilocybin for some time now and have noticed that it has many benefits. When I have used it for conditioning training it has helped to turn off the part of my brain that says “this sucks” and instead allows me to focus on the task at hand.” Said professional MMA fighter, Melissa Croden in an interview with us from 2023. “I have found that microdosing is great for recovery on my days off, it helps to alleviate anxiety, allowing me to enjoy my day off from the gym to its fullest.”

Much like Croden relies on microdosing to optimize her performance in and out of the ring, Mike Tyson has similarly embraced the power of psychedelics in his training and personal life. “The toughest opponent I ever faced was myself. I had low self-esteem. People with big egos often have low self-esteem. We use our ego to subsidize that,” Tyson explains in a 2021 New York Post interview, speaking on his experience with psychedelic toad venom.

The big Tyson vs. Paul match was originally set to take place this past July but was ultimately canceled due to an ulcer flare-up that left Tyson hospitalized. Tyson, who has not competed in a professional match since 2005, has faced health issues that caused the original match to be postponed, leaving hopeful fans unsure of Tyson’s current capabilities as a fighter. However, for the mushroom community, there remains a thick layer of hope, knowing that psilocybin is now a key part of Tyson’s training regimen.

Think about it: we know that psilocybin induces deep, untethered flow states, enhances mental focus, among a variety of other cognitive benefits. It would be foolish to dismiss its potential impact on an already legendary athlete, wouldn’t it?

On November 15th, we’ll know for sure just how far magic mushrooms can sustain a strained pro. For now, we’ll leave the speculation to the ring.
